Mary Katrantzou Runway
Mary Karantzou for Topshop
They don’t call Mary Katrantzou the “print goddess” for nothing. I love that Mary has teamed up with Topshop for a third time and launched a fabulous 10 piece collection this past Friday. This is a collaboration that is near and dear to my heart as it fits right into my comfort zone. The combination of print on print on print + bright colors = to die for bold looks! I’ve been waiting for this launch for months so you can imagine the disappointment I felt when I discovered on Monday that almost every piece of the collection flew off the shelves over the weekend. However, today, it appears some items have been restocked. This is one you must check out!
I hardly can believe winter is almost behind us which means it’s about that time to shed our coats, scarves and boots and move on to the light and airy world of spring. I always get antsy about this time every season….anxious to move onto the next season. When I hit this point, I tend to get overwhelmed thinking “What in the world will my style bring this season?”. I typically have no clue but always calm myself down by starting with the basics.
When I’m searching for my “new look” it seems Ace & Jig is one of the first places I go to look for my “base” pieces. Although their design is far from basic (prints, patterns, colors), I love to take an Ace & Jig piece and put a spin on it. This is very easy to do as their designs are all about versatility. After seeing Ace & Jig’s Spring 2012 line, I see this year will be no different.
Yep! It’s pretty fabulous and I can tell you at least two if not more of these looks will be part of my spring/summer wardrobe and some of my daily wears.
I also love the story behind these designers. Cary Vaughan and Jenna Wilson met in 2001 as interns at a New York lifestyle store. Through the years they worked together on and off, either lived together or blocks away from each other, got married around the same time (were bridesmaids in each others weddings), had kids around the same time and now they both live in Brooklyn. Ace & Jig was named for the initials of their firstborns: Cary’s daughter, Alice, and Jenna’s son, James. They’re both obsessed with textiles which inspired this line. They look to “create effortless clothes where the fabric can speak for itself”. Cary and Jenna do everything from scratch, from choosing the color and size of the yarn to determining the texture and pattern. They work with a small factory in India that weaves each material by hand. To quote Jenna ““All of our designs—you can pull them over your head, you can wash them, and they can go in the dryer. It’s an effortless kind of styling.”
Inspiration on so many fronts. Gotta love it!
Finally, it’s time to kick off the blog. The first post is a tough one I have to say so I thought I’d start with the obvious…Who am I anyway? Well, this is me.
I’m a wife and a mama of two lovely kiddos Lola and Gaines. By day, I’m a Corporate Risk Consultant who yearns of one day owning my own boutique. I’ve come to the realization that I may be a wanderer (from Dallas, then Lubbock for college, then back to Dallas, then to NYC, then back to Dallas and now Austin which is likely home for good). I also tend to make a long story even longer. I love to read. I’m a bit quirky. At times, I use too many exclamation marks!!! I tend to talk real fast because my mind is always going in 10 different directions. “Super” is one of my favorite words. I also start sentences with “And” and tend to say “Hmmmm” a lot. I don’t really like photos of myself (despite the fact that I threw one in this post). I must admit I’m a bit obsessive compulsive. I’m “obsessed’ with all fashion. If you can’t tell from the photo above, I love print on print on print. I love bright colors. I love vintage. I love shoes. I tend to wear animal print in some way, shape or form multiple times a week. I love accessories (the more the merrier). Basically, I’m obsessed with all things bold. I also obsess about music and art. My “mantra” has always been “The Bolder the Better” when it comes to any and everything (hence the name of this blog). This is my chance to show you all the things I obsess about daily and maybe it will one day lead to that boutique I yearn to have.
And, finally, a sneak peak into my style (which you don’t have to like my style to like this blog I assure you!).
I hope you’ll stick with me and join the fun!
